WIP Wednesday

Hi all,

Happy Wednesday! This weekend just gone I managed to finish my only working cross stitch project.

Take a look:

The design is from a kit I purchased in Aldi in January as part of their baby event. The intention has always been to frame the finished project & put it in the babies room when it’s done. I LOVE how the backstitch always makes the design pop! ❤️

Admittedly it’s not quite finished yet…The chart does have some french knots which I’ve avoided doing as I’ve got a short temper & don’t think I’ll be able to do them at the moment. (It’s been a while since I’ve completed any) I’m debating picking up some small beads instead to give it some sparkle 😁

If I do pick them up again I’ll need to watch a ‘How to’ video on YouTube first to refresh my memory!

Is it just me that struggles with French knots?!

For now, I’ve moved on to the second chart that was included in the kit. Two reasons for this, it’s using the same set of threads I’m using, so if I don’t complete the chart I’ll probably end up binning the threads because it’s so messy! It’s really not my cup of tea having the threads like this.

Previously I’ve always purchased threads individually & put them on to bobbins & build the kit up myself.

The last reason I’ve started this chart straight after is because I’m honestly just trying to keep busy. I have plenty of cross stitch charts/projects etc at home but since we moved in December I haven’t got round to sorting out my stash… one day I’ll get round to it!

Later this week when there’s more to it, I’ll share my progress on my new xstitch.

What are you stitching at the moment? Have you stitched anything for your little one before? Share a picture or link to your posts in the comments so I can take a look!

Happy stitching!

It’s Wednesday! 20.02.19

Woahhh we’re half way there!

It’s wednesday and time to share what I have been up to this last week, but before I do I thought it was worth sharing that today was my last day in work. Tomorrow I start my maternity leave….

mat leave

Everyone keeps asking me if I’m excited and I really don’t know how to answer that question. I can’t say that I’m excited to finish work, but I guess I could say that I’m excited because finishing work means I really am moving into the last stage of pregnancy. I’ll admit I’ll also be grateful for a lie in as sleep is becoming more difficult. (I sound thrilled by all of this don’t I?)

I do want to make the most of my time off to rest and get shiz done before baby makes an appearance, so over the next day I’m going to put a good old to-do list together & make sure that I have something I can achieve each day. I’m a little nervous that if I don’t do this then I could find myself getting more restless than normal which will make me feel down. With all the hormones roaming around at the moment, it’s not something I want!!

Anywho, let’s get started on my Wednesday Update 🙂

WHAT Craft Projects am I working on at the moment?

Nada, I’m hoping to pick my cross stitch up this week now I have finished, so watch this space!

What Book(s) am I reading at the moment?

At the weekend I finished ‘Eve of Man’ by Giovanna & Tom Fletcher, which I did enjoy. Over the next few days now I have my laptop updated & fully charged I am hoping to finally get my review down on paper.

Have you read this book? What did you think? I picked this book up as my book clubs book of the month to read so I am excited to chat to people about this one!

Currently I am reading ‘A Good Heart is Hard to Find’ by Trisha Ashley. I’ve purposely picked this book up on my kindle as an easy read.

The blurb from Goodreads summaries the book nicely. Click Here to see more about this book.

good heart

“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man of over forty is in possession of a major defect . . .”

Cassandra Leigh has woken as if from a bad dream: forty-four, childless and twenty-plus years into an affair with a married man. Max assures her they just need a little more patience and for his wife to die (!) but Cass is desperate for a baby and running out of time. Maybe Max is not the only man for her?

There’s her friend Jason – though he’s perhaps a little too rugged, and there’s something strange about the way his wife disappeared . . . Or there’s Dante, the mysterious stranger she meets on a dark night in his haunted manor house . . .

Cass must throw caution to the wind and claim the life she’s always wanted. Suddenly, it’s a choice between Mr Right, Mr Wrong or Mr Right Now . . .

So yeah, I’m about 25% of the way through and at the moment I could take it or leave it. I’m finding how the book is written quite difficult to follow as mid scene it changes to an internal monologue linked with the main characters book she is writing which is a little odd. Who knows, the further I get into the book the more charming I might find it!

Here’s hoping I finish this one soon as I have so so so many books I want to read & need to get as many done before bubbs gets here!

Have you read this book or anything else by Trisha Ashley? Let me know your thoughts…

WHAT am I Watching at the moment?

Same old, currently on season 4 of Bones & not so patiently waiting for Bones & Booth to get together as their chemistry is ridiculous! (Watching on Prime).

On a side note, I spotted that they have a cool section on amazon prime called ‘Could I be any more nostalgic’, so not only do I read that like chandler, but I very much appreciate all the box set series on there… they have Buffy, Angel, Lost, Supernatural.. and probably a few more I can’t remember. I think I’ll find it difficult to get off the sofa and do something productive if the TV options are this good aha!

I did try watching abducted in Plain Sight the other day on Netflix but I had to turn it off after 30 minutes, it was absolutely ridiculous! Has anyone found this? I usually love anything true crime related but I just wasn’t feeling this one. It all felt a little bit too far fetched.

WHAT am I listening to at the moment?

I am working my way through season 2 of ‘Happy Mum, Happy Baby’ podcast which is hosted by Giovanna Fletcher. I find it light listening & completely relevant to my life at the moment. The last episode I listened to they talked a lot about breastfeeding which is something I am quite nervous about, so not only was the episode amusing, it as useful!

So, thats it for this weeks update. What have you all been up to? Can you relate to anything I have mentioned today? Let me know!

Enjoy the rest of your week

W is for Wednesday 13.02.19

Hi all, I hope you are all having a productive week. I’ve been quiet the last week or so because our internet has been down AGAIN! #FirstWorldProblems

Bonus though is it’s meant I’ve got a little bit more reading done over the last few days 🙂

So every week I share a post to let you all know how I’m getting on with my week & what’s been going on.

Here’s this weeks comings & goings!

WHAT craft projects am I working on at the moment?

I’m still stitching the cute baby design which I’m hoping to get done by the time baby arrives. Full disclosure, I’ve not done any this week. I start my maternity leave next Thursday so hoping I’ll up my stitching game when I’m not in work.

Are any of you having a more productive week with your stitching? I’d love to see, so feel free to share in the comments!

WHAT book(s) am I currently reading?

Yay! I finally get to talk about something other than Time’s Convert. Last week I finished the book I’ve been reading since the beginning of Jan. You can see my review of it here.

Finally on to new books, I’ve picked up Eve of Man by Giovanna & Tom Fletcher. This was voted as Feb’s book for my book club this month. I was pretty excited to start it & it really doesn’t disappoint. I’m hoping to have the book done by the end of this week so watch this space!

Whilst reading this one I’m enjoying picturing who I’d cast as the main characters of the book in the film adaption. Does anyone else do that? I’ll be sharing my thoughts on this a little more when I’ve finished the book. I’m hoping to be done nice & early this weekend.

What have you all been reading this week? Have you got round to reading Eve of Man?

WHAT am I watching at the moment?

I’m part way through Bones & enjoying it. Still impatient to see Booth & Bones get together. I’m a romantic at heart! ❤️However with the internet being down I’ve had to resort to DVDs as we don’t have live tv either so I’ve picked up the classic Sabrina the teenage witch.

Feeling very nostalgic watching it. I’ve totally noted the intro for season 5 is awful. How can such a popular kids programme have such a cheap intro!?

You can watch the one I’m talking about here 😳 Enjoy!!

So that’s it! Please share your thoughts in the comments & let me know how your week is going 🙂

Have a good evening!

W is for Wednesday 30.1.19

I hope you have all been safe in the snow that’s made an appearance over the last day or so!

It’s that time of week again where I share with you what I’m currently up to this week!

Let’s dive straight in…

WHAT craft projects am I working on at the moment?

I’m still stitching the cute baby designs I got from Aldi a few weeks ago. I think you can now tell what it is I’m stitching a little bit more, so it doesn’t just look like a blob!! I’m not finding the stitching challenging but for once I think that’s a good thing as this one is helping me find my stitching groove again. What do you think? What are you currently stitching at the moment?

WHAT book(s) am I currently reading?

I’m still reading Times Convert by Deborah Harkness… shock! I’ve been reading it all month! The most annoying thing is, I am genuinely enjoying the book…I just can’t seem to keep my concentration in a place where I can read for more than 30 minutes at a time. I tend to read before bed as it helps me get myself settled but naturally it makes me sleepy! I really need to start dedicating some time during the week again to put the remote down & pick up my book!

So, I have about 100ish pages left & then I’m hoping to move into Eve of Man by Giovanna & Tom Fletcher which is for my book club. Have any of you read it before? I hear good things so I’m quite excited.

WHAT am I watching at the moment?

Currently on season 2 of Bones & enjoying it very much. I can’t believe how much I want Booth & Bones to get together! They have such good chemistry. I just want Cam to leave the series because in my eyes, she’s annoying & just getting in the way. I will say I very much enjoyed the appearance of Stephen Fry in the last few episodes! Who doesn’t love that man?!

I’ve also just finished watching The Conversations with a killer: the Ted Bundy tapes. You can see my post on it here.

I really enjoyed it to the point I went searching for other blog posts on it to check it wasn’t just me that liked it, plus read all the trivia I could find on google. (Seriously does anyone else do this after a great film or tv show?!) I’m hoping they’ll do some other good serial killers in this format in the near future.

I’ve been recommended to give Abducted at Plain Sight a go, so I reckon I’ll probably watch that this weekend coming.

If you’re a fan of Bones, serial killers etc & have watched these or have others you’d recommend then please let me know!

WHAT am I listening to at the moment?

Currently I have all audiobooks on hold in a bid to save money. That and since my husband passed his driving test I’m not really walking around as much. (Plus when I do walk I very much resemble a sloth waddling – attractive I know!)

I do love a good podcast though. I’m not very experienced in them but have found a few that I enjoy. Ones that I’m cycling at the moment are ‘Happy Mum, Happy Baby’ which is helping me mentally prepare for being a parent. (Always a bonus). Secondly I’m also dipping into a true crime podcast called Redhanded which is fab as well as random episodes of ‘Happy Place’. Again, good for giving a little perspective on things!

What do you guys listen to?

So that’s it! Please share your thoughts on the comments & let me know how your week is going 🙂

Have a good evening!

#6.0 WIP Wednesday

Hi all!

I’m bringing back ‘Work in Progress’ Wednesday with a twist. Previously I’ve always posted about cross stitch projects, but this time I want to broaden the theme a little. I want to include all things I love & provide you with a midweek update on all the good things in life! The great thing about this is that the stuff I post about can change depending on what I’m up to.

The core themes I’m hoping to cover is books, tv, cross stitch & pregnancy. (Soon to be baby)

So let’s start…

What craft projects are you working on at the moment?

I’m stitching a small cross stitch pattern ready for babies room when it’s ready.

I’ve not done too much stitching since Saturday but hoping to pick it back up over the next few days!

(I’ve not got an up to date picture, so watch this space. I’m sure I’ll post one soon)

What book(s) are you currently reading?

I’m still reading ‘Times Convert’ by Deborah Harkness & on my kindle for nights when I can’t sleep I’m dipping in & out of a book called ‘A good heart is hard to find’ by Trisha Ashley. I’m only a chapter or so in but it seems like a nice easy read. I’ve read other books by the same authors before so they shouldn’t let me down.

I’ve only added one book to my reading challenge this year so far 😕

I honestly feel like I’ve lost my reading mojo at the moment which is really frustrating! If anyone has any tips on how to get back on the track please let me know!

What are you watching right now?

Bones! I’m almost done with the first season. Enjoying it very much & not finding it too much hard work. There are 12 season on amazon prime so I’ve got plenty to keep me going! No doubt I’ll want something like this for when I start my maternity leave.

What’s posts do you have in the pipeline?

I’m in the process of putting together a post about What I have learnt during my pregnancy so far & general tips to support those starting that journey. I’m thinking it’ll be a nice post to look back on in a year when baby is here!

I also really want to establish a few posting themes to get into a routine with my posts. At the moment I’m just posting as & when I feel like it but I wouldn’t mind creating a little structure & consistency. Again, if you have any hints/tips etc then please share them in the comments.

Pregnancy progress

Not really a question but a massive part of my life. I can’t really not post about it can I?! In future I might share what I’ve learnt in the last week about pregnancy or parenting when he’s here! But for now you get a nice update on me & my jellybean.

So, I’m doing ok. I’m 33 weeks & 2 days with 4 weeks left in work. Feeling fine in myself, just getting a little more tired now which is making keeping the house tidy on-top of work & maintaining my hobbies a little difficult. Baby is nice & active which is reassuring. I have a midwife check up on Friday…Just keeping an eye on his growth as he’s a little on the big side. Got myself a little chubby cheeks growing but I’m sure he’s fine.,

So that’s it! There’s my first WIP Wednesday! How’s your week going? What are you currently reading, watching or working on? I’d love to hear.

Have a good evening!

#43 Frost the Centaurus (1)

Good evening & Happy New Year!

I hope you are all well & have recovered nicely from Christmas & New Year. It’s all back to work now.

Thankfully I was in work apart from the Bank Holidays so it made going back to work on Monday a little easier. I am in this weekend as well so there is no rest for the wicked!

As of January 1st I started stitching my ‘Magical creature’s’ Stitch a-long (SAL) for 2016. You can see the chart here.

So this month I’m stitching ‘Frost the Centaurus’ for January.

“A Centaur or Hippocentauris is a mythological creature with the head, arms & torso of a human & the body & legs of a house. In S. Lewis popular ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, Centaurs are gifted at stargazing, prophecy, healing, and warfare, a fierce & valiant race always faithful to the high king Aslan the Lion”

Centaurs honestly just remind me of Harry Potter… So I’ve renamed my Centaur Bane. I’m thinking Firenze is likely to be taken!

So here is my progress so far, I’m not yet finished!

I love the colour of my fabric I’m using. It’s using hand dyed even-weave from Chromatic Alchemy. Click on the name to have a look at the website. I love the fabrics on this site & would recommend using it if you are looking for something different 🙂 sadly I cannot remember the name of the fabric I picked.

I’m really enjoying stitching this, however it is deceptively bigger than you think! I’m hoping to have this box finished by the end of the week.

I’m trying to be quite strict with my projects that I’m stitching at the moment as I’m aiming to increase the number of unfinished projects I have! Right now I’m wanting to finish my magical creatures SAL first & then I’ll move onto January’s Frosted Pumpkin Passport SAL. which is ready to download on 15th! Once I’m done with that it might be time to switch back to magical creatures, although saying that by that time I’m hoping it’ll be time to finish off an UFP I have like the baby sampler from my last post or the subversive stitch I also started & am yet to finish! (See post #42).

I haven’t set myself any goals this year as it’s a big year with my wedding being in December 🙂 I am however hoping to finish some unfinished projects & a few cards as usual. I was hoping to add an element of Cross stitch to my wedding but I’m not sure what to do yet. Everything seems like a massive task that I would struggle to finish. Any suggestions? Have you added Cross Stitch to your wedding before?

Are any of you taking part in any SALS this year?

Have a great stitchy weekend!

#42 last WIP post of 2015

I hope this post finds you all well… So Christmas is done & dusted already. How on earth did that happen?

I had 4 whole days off over Christmas which were lovely and quiet which is just what the doctor ordered. With my time off I wanted to finish an existing WIP rather than starting a new one. It took so much self control not to start something new!! (A crafters ongoing battle I know…) Here’s what I got done:

I spent Christmas finishing the box at the bottom ready for the baby name, date of birth & weight. I also completed the border & finished the back stitch. This is pretty much done now whilst I wait for my friend to pop! Once baby is born I’ll add in the details & brave the French knots. After so much back stitching I couldn’t face them just yet. I need to psych myself up haha! Is it just me that has a love/hate relationship with French knots??!!

I’m really happy with how it’s turned out & get an awesome feeling of accomplishment when I admire my work… Finishing something so nice really motivates me to stitch more… It certainly keeps my stitchy bug glowing 👍🏻

Once I was done with this (finished by the Sunday) I thought it would be good to stitch something from a new book I purchased a little while ago. (Subversive Cross stitch- 50 clever designs for your sassy side- by Julie Jackson) see post #36

Here’s a sneak peak…

It’s stitched on fancy hand dyed Evenweave fabric by.Chromatic Alchemy The picture doesn’t do it justice… It’s all sparkly. ☺️ I’d recommend using this site for colourful fabrics. 💙

I have now finished the wording on this piece & just have the border to do. But I’ll share a picture next week. It did feel odd stitching a swear word… The little girl in me or maybe it’s just the adult was slightly disapproving that I was stitching ‘I fucking love you’ to frame in my house ha. Heyho, we all have different tastes as it seems appropriate for me & my partner as it’s something we shout at each other frequently 😋
How have you all been getting on over Christmas? Stitched much or been too full to move? Hehe

If I don’t post before, I wish you all a healthy & happy new year!! 💙

#40 Happy Christmas Adam!

Hello all!

Happy Christmas Adam! 😊

I’ve got half a day of work & then I’m off until Tuesday! Yay! I hope you are all ready for Christmas & finished work for the holidays.

I’ve been so busy the last few weeks, hence my absence yet again… Sorry about that. Bonus is, I have things to share 😊

First up, I’ve finished my ‘Santa is coming to town’ by Lizzie Kate. Well, finished stitching. I still have the embellishments to add which I’m sure at some point I’ll get round too! For now I’m happy with it & totally done with Xmas stitching for the year. How are you all getting on?

I’ve not decided how to finish it yet? Any suggestions?

Next up I’ve moved back to my baby sampler for my friend due in January. Design by Lesley Teare.

Really happy with how it’s going! I’m planning to stitch the outside of the box & then alternate between the back stitch & border depending on my mood 😊

What stitching do you have planned over the Christmas holiday?

I hope you are all having a lovely week.

Merry Christmas xxx

#39 All work & no stitching

How on earth am I on #39?? That’s gone so quick! I’ve really enjoyed posting my updates each week & sharing handy tips… I did however break my weekly streak of posting every Wednesday last week 😦 Socialising & work got the better of me!

This week, I’m back & I’ve made a conscious effort to put up my WIP post! Admittedly this has meant that for the last few days I’ve had to keep asking myself what day it is & remind myself it’s not yet Wednesday! *sigh*

Finally, Wednesday is here & here is my update:

Just a reminder… It’s “Santa’s coming to town” by Lizzie Kate on linen fabric.

My first Lizzie Kate chart & I’m loving it!

I’ve not made as much progress as I would have liked & I have actually done a bit more of the bottom but I can’t take a photo of it as I’m being held hostage by my cat Misty on my lap lol 😉 I’ll make sure I post it over the next few days…

But yes, very busy with work & actual plans that don’t involve sitting at home & stitching 😦 but there you have it.

I’ve been trying to keep up with all your lovely Cross stitch updates… How is everyone getting on? Is it time to put your Xmas stitching away yet?

I’m really hoping to get this little one done before Christmas so I can frame it & have it displayed for a week or two but I won’t hold my breath! I do still need to buy the little embellishment pack with the little buttons in.

I hope this post finds you all well…Have a great week stitching guys!
