WIP Wednesday

Hi all,

Happy Wednesday! This weekend just gone I managed to finish my only working cross stitch project.

Take a look:

The design is from a kit I purchased in Aldi in January as part of their baby event. The intention has always been to frame the finished project & put it in the babies room when it’s done. I LOVE how the backstitch always makes the design pop! ❤️

Admittedly it’s not quite finished yet…The chart does have some french knots which I’ve avoided doing as I’ve got a short temper & don’t think I’ll be able to do them at the moment. (It’s been a while since I’ve completed any) I’m debating picking up some small beads instead to give it some sparkle 😁

If I do pick them up again I’ll need to watch a ‘How to’ video on YouTube first to refresh my memory!

Is it just me that struggles with French knots?!

For now, I’ve moved on to the second chart that was included in the kit. Two reasons for this, it’s using the same set of threads I’m using, so if I don’t complete the chart I’ll probably end up binning the threads because it’s so messy! It’s really not my cup of tea having the threads like this.

Previously I’ve always purchased threads individually & put them on to bobbins & build the kit up myself.

The last reason I’ve started this chart straight after is because I’m honestly just trying to keep busy. I have plenty of cross stitch charts/projects etc at home but since we moved in December I haven’t got round to sorting out my stash… one day I’ll get round to it!

Later this week when there’s more to it, I’ll share my progress on my new xstitch.

What are you stitching at the moment? Have you stitched anything for your little one before? Share a picture or link to your posts in the comments so I can take a look!

Happy stitching!

W is for Wednesday 30.1.19

I hope you have all been safe in the snow that’s made an appearance over the last day or so!

It’s that time of week again where I share with you what I’m currently up to this week!

Let’s dive straight in…

WHAT craft projects am I working on at the moment?

I’m still stitching the cute baby designs I got from Aldi a few weeks ago. I think you can now tell what it is I’m stitching a little bit more, so it doesn’t just look like a blob!! I’m not finding the stitching challenging but for once I think that’s a good thing as this one is helping me find my stitching groove again. What do you think? What are you currently stitching at the moment?

WHAT book(s) am I currently reading?

I’m still reading Times Convert by Deborah Harkness… shock! I’ve been reading it all month! The most annoying thing is, I am genuinely enjoying the book…I just can’t seem to keep my concentration in a place where I can read for more than 30 minutes at a time. I tend to read before bed as it helps me get myself settled but naturally it makes me sleepy! I really need to start dedicating some time during the week again to put the remote down & pick up my book!

So, I have about 100ish pages left & then I’m hoping to move into Eve of Man by Giovanna & Tom Fletcher which is for my book club. Have any of you read it before? I hear good things so I’m quite excited.

WHAT am I watching at the moment?

Currently on season 2 of Bones & enjoying it very much. I can’t believe how much I want Booth & Bones to get together! They have such good chemistry. I just want Cam to leave the series because in my eyes, she’s annoying & just getting in the way. I will say I very much enjoyed the appearance of Stephen Fry in the last few episodes! Who doesn’t love that man?!

I’ve also just finished watching The Conversations with a killer: the Ted Bundy tapes. You can see my post on it here.

I really enjoyed it to the point I went searching for other blog posts on it to check it wasn’t just me that liked it, plus read all the trivia I could find on google. (Seriously does anyone else do this after a great film or tv show?!) I’m hoping they’ll do some other good serial killers in this format in the near future.

I’ve been recommended to give Abducted at Plain Sight a go, so I reckon I’ll probably watch that this weekend coming.

If you’re a fan of Bones, serial killers etc & have watched these or have others you’d recommend then please let me know!

WHAT am I listening to at the moment?

Currently I have all audiobooks on hold in a bid to save money. That and since my husband passed his driving test I’m not really walking around as much. (Plus when I do walk I very much resemble a sloth waddling – attractive I know!)

I do love a good podcast though. I’m not very experienced in them but have found a few that I enjoy. Ones that I’m cycling at the moment are ‘Happy Mum, Happy Baby’ which is helping me mentally prepare for being a parent. (Always a bonus). Secondly I’m also dipping into a true crime podcast called Redhanded which is fab as well as random episodes of ‘Happy Place’. Again, good for giving a little perspective on things!

What do you guys listen to?

So that’s it! Please share your thoughts on the comments & let me know how your week is going 🙂

Have a good evening!

#7.0 TBT Cross Stitch

I’m using Thursdays throwback this week as an opportunity to showcase some of my old cross stitch projects I’ve completed over the last few years. Here are just a few of them…

bring on some stitchy motivation!!

Most of these are pieces I completed & gifted to other people (my fave thing to do with finished xstitch)

If you would like any more details about the designs used just comment below & I’ll do my best to dig out the original post!

#6.0 WIP Wednesday

Hi all!

I’m bringing back ‘Work in Progress’ Wednesday with a twist. Previously I’ve always posted about cross stitch projects, but this time I want to broaden the theme a little. I want to include all things I love & provide you with a midweek update on all the good things in life! The great thing about this is that the stuff I post about can change depending on what I’m up to.

The core themes I’m hoping to cover is books, tv, cross stitch & pregnancy. (Soon to be baby)

So let’s start…

What craft projects are you working on at the moment?

I’m stitching a small cross stitch pattern ready for babies room when it’s ready.

I’ve not done too much stitching since Saturday but hoping to pick it back up over the next few days!

(I’ve not got an up to date picture, so watch this space. I’m sure I’ll post one soon)

What book(s) are you currently reading?

I’m still reading ‘Times Convert’ by Deborah Harkness & on my kindle for nights when I can’t sleep I’m dipping in & out of a book called ‘A good heart is hard to find’ by Trisha Ashley. I’m only a chapter or so in but it seems like a nice easy read. I’ve read other books by the same authors before so they shouldn’t let me down.

I’ve only added one book to my reading challenge this year so far 😕

I honestly feel like I’ve lost my reading mojo at the moment which is really frustrating! If anyone has any tips on how to get back on the track please let me know!

What are you watching right now?

Bones! I’m almost done with the first season. Enjoying it very much & not finding it too much hard work. There are 12 season on amazon prime so I’ve got plenty to keep me going! No doubt I’ll want something like this for when I start my maternity leave.

What’s posts do you have in the pipeline?

I’m in the process of putting together a post about What I have learnt during my pregnancy so far & general tips to support those starting that journey. I’m thinking it’ll be a nice post to look back on in a year when baby is here!

I also really want to establish a few posting themes to get into a routine with my posts. At the moment I’m just posting as & when I feel like it but I wouldn’t mind creating a little structure & consistency. Again, if you have any hints/tips etc then please share them in the comments.

Pregnancy progress

Not really a question but a massive part of my life. I can’t really not post about it can I?! In future I might share what I’ve learnt in the last week about pregnancy or parenting when he’s here! But for now you get a nice update on me & my jellybean.

So, I’m doing ok. I’m 33 weeks & 2 days with 4 weeks left in work. Feeling fine in myself, just getting a little more tired now which is making keeping the house tidy on-top of work & maintaining my hobbies a little difficult. Baby is nice & active which is reassuring. I have a midwife check up on Friday…Just keeping an eye on his growth as he’s a little on the big side. Got myself a little chubby cheeks growing but I’m sure he’s fine.,

So that’s it! There’s my first WIP Wednesday! How’s your week going? What are you currently reading, watching or working on? I’d love to hear.

Have a good evening!

#43 Frost the Centaurus (1)

Good evening & Happy New Year!

I hope you are all well & have recovered nicely from Christmas & New Year. It’s all back to work now.

Thankfully I was in work apart from the Bank Holidays so it made going back to work on Monday a little easier. I am in this weekend as well so there is no rest for the wicked!

As of January 1st I started stitching my ‘Magical creature’s’ Stitch a-long (SAL) for 2016. You can see the chart here.

So this month I’m stitching ‘Frost the Centaurus’ for January.

“A Centaur or Hippocentauris is a mythological creature with the head, arms & torso of a human & the body & legs of a house. In S. Lewis popular ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, Centaurs are gifted at stargazing, prophecy, healing, and warfare, a fierce & valiant race always faithful to the high king Aslan the Lion”

Centaurs honestly just remind me of Harry Potter… So I’ve renamed my Centaur Bane. I’m thinking Firenze is likely to be taken!

So here is my progress so far, I’m not yet finished!

I love the colour of my fabric I’m using. It’s using hand dyed even-weave from Chromatic Alchemy. Click on the name to have a look at the website. I love the fabrics on this site & would recommend using it if you are looking for something different 🙂 sadly I cannot remember the name of the fabric I picked.

I’m really enjoying stitching this, however it is deceptively bigger than you think! I’m hoping to have this box finished by the end of the week.

I’m trying to be quite strict with my projects that I’m stitching at the moment as I’m aiming to increase the number of unfinished projects I have! Right now I’m wanting to finish my magical creatures SAL first & then I’ll move onto January’s Frosted Pumpkin Passport SAL. which is ready to download on 15th! Once I’m done with that it might be time to switch back to magical creatures, although saying that by that time I’m hoping it’ll be time to finish off an UFP I have like the baby sampler from my last post or the subversive stitch I also started & am yet to finish! (See post #42).

I haven’t set myself any goals this year as it’s a big year with my wedding being in December 🙂 I am however hoping to finish some unfinished projects & a few cards as usual. I was hoping to add an element of Cross stitch to my wedding but I’m not sure what to do yet. Everything seems like a massive task that I would struggle to finish. Any suggestions? Have you added Cross Stitch to your wedding before?

Are any of you taking part in any SALS this year?

Have a great stitchy weekend!

#41 The Angel of Cross Stitch

How beautiful is this?! Xx

Joan Elliott

JE200 © The Angel of Cross Stitch

Sorry for the delay but here she is…finally!  The Angel of Cross Stitch uses the full palette of DMC six strand embroidery floss, 454 colors! This will surely be a labor of love should you choose to stitch her. It is a wonderful way to dig into your stash and use the left over bits and pieces of floss you’ve been saving all these years. Originally designed in 1999 for the now gone Cross Stitcher magazine in the USA, I have given her an update by including the DMC colors that have been added since that time and deleting any discontinued colors. Even if you do not have all the colors, this design is flexible enough to substitute what you have for many of the stitches. I’ve refined some lines in the face and hands so she has a bit more delicate look than…

#39 All work & no stitching

Hello!

How on earth am I on #39?? That’s gone so quick! I’ve really enjoyed posting my updates each week & sharing handy tips… I did however break my weekly streak of posting every Wednesday last week 😦 Socialising & work got the better of me!

This week, I’m back & I’ve made a conscious effort to put up my WIP post! Admittedly this has meant that for the last few days I’ve had to keep asking myself what day it is & remind myself it’s not yet Wednesday! *sigh*

Finally, Wednesday is here & here is my update:

Just a reminder… It’s “Santa’s coming to town” by Lizzie Kate on linen fabric.

My first Lizzie Kate chart & I’m loving it!

I’ve not made as much progress as I would have liked & I have actually done a bit more of the bottom but I can’t take a photo of it as I’m being held hostage by my cat Misty on my lap lol 😉 I’ll make sure I post it over the next few days…

But yes, very busy with work & actual plans that don’t involve sitting at home & stitching 😦 but there you have it.

I’ve been trying to keep up with all your lovely Cross stitch updates… How is everyone getting on? Is it time to put your Xmas stitching away yet?

I’m really hoping to get this little one done before Christmas so I can frame it & have it displayed for a week or two but I won’t hold my breath! I do still need to buy the little embellishment pack with the little buttons in.

I hope this post finds you all well…Have a great week stitching guys!

#38 2016 SAL

Ok, own up… Who put this in my shopping bag?? Frosted Pumpkin 2016 SAL

That makes two SALs (stitch alongs)I’m  completing in 2016… I just couldn’t help myself. Id say I feel guilty but I totally don’t haha 😈

Has anyone else given in & purchased this?

I hope you’re all keeping out of the rain!

Happy stitching!

#37 Treat yourself

Late as always but Happy WIP Wednesday Stitchers!

I very nearly didn’t write a post for this week as I didn’t have anything to share again. However, today I decided to treat myself & start a new design. Oh I know! I shouldn’t have… I already have plenty on the go but I honestly thought I deserved it! (Says every cross stitcher)

My new project is a design by Lizzie Kate called Santa’s coming to town. I started it around lunchtime today. The threads I’m using are a combination of DMC & Anchor as I don’t own any of the weekdye threads. They are certainly something I’ll be adding to my wish list! So Pretty ^_^

Can you spot the mistakes? 😦

By the time I realised where I’d gone wrong I’d already finished the thread I was on & it was all tucked up at the back with no way of fixing it without ripping it out. I decided to embrace the mistakes & carry on! I hope they aren’t too obvious!

The design did originally call for the beard & eyebrows to be stitched in White Whisper Yarn but seeing as I didn’t have any in my stash I went for the standard DMC. I posted on a Fb page earlier today asking for advice about whether to stitch with an alternative or make the effort & order the yarn however the majority of responses advised me not to bother! Have you stitched with it before? I hear it’s difficult & if anything reminds me of stitching with metallic threads lol.

Ahh…This little project really has got my stitchy bug back. ☺️ I’ve really enjoyed stitching & watching Outlander this afternoon/evening. I’m hooked on both!! *swoons at Jamie Fraser*

So yeah…Between now & the new year I’ve told myself I really need to cut down on my stitching time & this will sound geeky BUT it’s because I’m behind on my Goodreads reading challenge. 😳

Reading is a massive love of mine that has taken a back seat to stitching this year & as a result of that it may be the first year I don’t hit my target of books to read in a year. (50!!)

So the plan is to try & divide my time a bit more evenly over the next month to get myself back on track. I’ve got 9 books left to read by December 31st. Totes achievable!! 👍🏻

Anyway I’ll stop rambling on… I probably should get into bed!

What are you all working on this week? Please share in the comment box!

Enjoy the rest of your week ☺️
