#6.0 WIP Wednesday

Hi all!

I’m bringing back ‘Work in Progress’ Wednesday with a twist. Previously I’ve always posted about cross stitch projects, but this time I want to broaden the theme a little. I want to include all things I love & provide you with a midweek update on all the good things in life! The great thing about this is that the stuff I post about can change depending on what I’m up to.

The core themes I’m hoping to cover is books, tv, cross stitch & pregnancy. (Soon to be baby)

So let’s start…

What craft projects are you working on at the moment?

I’m stitching a small cross stitch pattern ready for babies room when it’s ready.

I’ve not done too much stitching since Saturday but hoping to pick it back up over the next few days!

(I’ve not got an up to date picture, so watch this space. I’m sure I’ll post one soon)

What book(s) are you currently reading?

I’m still reading ‘Times Convert’ by Deborah Harkness & on my kindle for nights when I can’t sleep I’m dipping in & out of a book called ‘A good heart is hard to find’ by Trisha Ashley. I’m only a chapter or so in but it seems like a nice easy read. I’ve read other books by the same authors before so they shouldn’t let me down.

I’ve only added one book to my reading challenge this year so far 😕

I honestly feel like I’ve lost my reading mojo at the moment which is really frustrating! If anyone has any tips on how to get back on the track please let me know!

What are you watching right now?

Bones! I’m almost done with the first season. Enjoying it very much & not finding it too much hard work. There are 12 season on amazon prime so I’ve got plenty to keep me going! No doubt I’ll want something like this for when I start my maternity leave.

What’s posts do you have in the pipeline?

I’m in the process of putting together a post about What I have learnt during my pregnancy so far & general tips to support those starting that journey. I’m thinking it’ll be a nice post to look back on in a year when baby is here!

I also really want to establish a few posting themes to get into a routine with my posts. At the moment I’m just posting as & when I feel like it but I wouldn’t mind creating a little structure & consistency. Again, if you have any hints/tips etc then please share them in the comments.

Pregnancy progress

Not really a question but a massive part of my life. I can’t really not post about it can I?! In future I might share what I’ve learnt in the last week about pregnancy or parenting when he’s here! But for now you get a nice update on me & my jellybean.

So, I’m doing ok. I’m 33 weeks & 2 days with 4 weeks left in work. Feeling fine in myself, just getting a little more tired now which is making keeping the house tidy on-top of work & maintaining my hobbies a little difficult. Baby is nice & active which is reassuring. I have a midwife check up on Friday…Just keeping an eye on his growth as he’s a little on the big side. Got myself a little chubby cheeks growing but I’m sure he’s fine.,

So that’s it! There’s my first WIP Wednesday! How’s your week going? What are you currently reading, watching or working on? I’d love to hear.

Have a good evening!

#5.0 Reading Goals 2019

Evening all! I’m a bit late to the party but it’s finally time I made a decision about my reading goals for 2019.

You’re probably bored of reading this but I’m expecting my first baby in March which I know will keep me busy, but I’m hoping I’ll still find time to read. Especially on nighttime feeds (thank god for my kindle which is backlit)

After reading another post on the blog ”A book. A thought.’ I’ve decided to join the PopSugar reading challenge of 2019. I’ve never been involved in one like this before. Click here to read more about it. Thanks for the suggestion ☺️

Each year I do take part in the goodreads challenge & for the first time in about 5 years I didn’t hit my target of 40 books. Oh the shame! This year I’ve gone for a humble 35. (My PB being 60 a few years back) What have you gone for this year? Any mums out there that balance parenting with reading well? Please let me know how you do it & any tips you have!

I find challenges do push me further & encourage me even when I’m stuck on a very tough book. I really struggle with putting a book down without finishing it even when I don’t like it. Is anyone else the same? Admittedly I have given up once or twice, which was definitely for my sanity. BUT a rare occasion! Films on the other hand, I’ll happily switch off if I’m not enjoying it. Ha.

So yes, pretty stubborn but I rarely find a book isn’t worth finishing & even if it was a tough read, I love the feeling I get when I’ve finished!!

Below is a snapshot of what books I’ll be attempting to read in 2019.

📸: Screenshot of the PopSugar Challenge

I love that it doesn’t tell you what books to read, but a prompt of how to pick your next book. As I’ve already started a book this month I won’t be going from top to bottom on the list, however saying that…I need to decide if I can get the book I’m reading to fit one of the categories above haha.

Currently I’m reading ‘Times Convert’ by Deborah Harkness. Click here to read more about the book. What category do you think I can fit it into?

It could probably fall into the following:

  • A book told from multiple POVs
  • A book featuring an extinct or imaginary creature
  • A book with a two word title

I could probably squeeze it into a few more categories, but three is enough! Is it cheating that I don’t decide how & wait if to see if I could find other books that fit in each category.

My vote is on yes. I think I’m going to go with the second one… extinct or imaginary creature. It has vampires, witches & demons so seems fitting! Has anyone read it before? Let me know what you think of it! If not, have you at least read The Discovery of Witches which is the first in the series?! I love it as much as Harry Potter so I’m hoping to find a few like minded readers out there.

I hope this post finds you all well & ready for the week ahead!

Thanks for stopping by & well done if you made it to the end of my daily rambling ☺️

#4.0 Sunday ramblings

Morning all! ⭐️

Just posting a quick update of where I’m up to this weekend.

What I wanted to achieve this weekend:

  • Progress with my one & only active cross stitch project

I have done a little bit more, I’ll share my progress in the next day or so & see if you can guess what it is yet!

  • Read more of my book (Times of Convert by Deborah Harkness) I’m currently on page 245. Ideally I want to reach pg350 by Sunday night

I’m on page 270, so progress has been made but not quite there yet.

  • Attend afternoon tea (Saturday)
  • Attend hospital tour (Sunday)

Booked in for 9:30am this morning

  • Get my nails done (Sunday)

Booked in for straight after the hospital tour. I’m a little nervous about this one. It’s with an old work colleague rather than my usual name place. I don’t think I’m great st small talk! You forget how annoying it is when you move house that the simplest routine stuff needs to change.

  • Reading & practice more of my hypnobirthing book

I did a little bit yesterday, but didn’t practice. Definitely going to practice some of the relaxation before bed.

  • Unpack at least one more box (Front room or bedroom- I’m not picky!)

Smashed this one! If only I could get the house to look more tidy & organised!

  • Fit some rest in there somewhere?!

I’m up super early this morning. I was struggling during the night with heartburn. I’m also at that point where I can find a relatively comfortable position to sit or sleep in but it becomes uncomfortable as soon as I need to move. I think baby is doing fine though. Had a few reassuring kicks this morning telling me he was awake!

So that’s a very brief update on where I’m up to with my weekend goals! Now I’m off to hunt down some breakfast before I go freak out at the hospital a little!

I hope you all had a productive day yesterday! Did you read, stitch, chill? Whatever you did let me know ☺️

#3.0 Afternoon tea, baby clothes & books

Evening all!

I probably should find a more social time to post other than after 10pm, but it seems to be the only time I can get round to posting.

Tonight’s just a quick post about today’s comings & goings. Today has been a productive & happy day ☺️ I hope you can all say the same on what was a pretty miserable Saturday.

This morning my husband put the first layer of paint in our bedroom & I unpacked a few boxes which is something to tick off the to-do list for this weekend. I also managed a little light reading of my Hypnobirthing book.

Then this afternoon we went for a drive to meet up for a friends 30th birthday. Afternoon tea in Clitheroe. It was really good! I’m still full from it now ☺️

On the way back from afternoon tea we stopped in the Trafford Centre to get a few bits & stretch my legs. I’ve found since luke passed his driving test in October that I barely walk at all anymore! That & with my cankles I really struggle so I’m trying to make every effort to be as mobile as possible. I definitely felt it after our walk round the TC. Lower back pain sucks!

Anyhow, whilst we were out I got a few items in prep for baby – disposable underwear, bottoms up spray, nappy rash cream…I also got this ADORABLE outfit which I’ve decided is going to be his ‘coming home’ outfit 😍😍😍

Isn’t it too cute?! I’m so in love with it!!

As a treat I also stopped off in Waterstones (I can never resist!) and picked up a few books for the to read pile. I’ll share a list of them in the next few days.

Finally, tonight when I’ve got in I’ve just chilled with a film ‘Unknown’ and my cross stitch.

Not a bad day all round really! Oh, I also fired off a few posts on my book club page about reading challenges for this year & voting for books to read in Feb. I’ll post more on that later!

I hope you’ve all had a good day & most the most of it.

Sleep well & bring on Sunday 🌟 xxx

#2.0 Getting back on it

Hi all! Happy Friday! I hope you’re all looking forward to a relaxing weekend!

This weekend I’ve got a few plans, afternoon tea tomorrow for a friends birthday & a hospital tour on Sunday morning. Tonight I’m home alone for a few hours.

Without any hesitation my plan for tonight was to binge Netflix & possibly get my xstitch on.

Firstly, to select my viewing. For a change I loaded amazon prime & spotted that Bones is available to watch!! I’ve always wanted to watch it so I’m pretty pleased with that.

So my Friday night has so far been taken up watching 4-5 episodes of Bones. I quite like the main characters & I’m enjoying reminiscing about my teenage crush on David Boreanaz. *swoon*

Ive also been able to muster some energy to pick up some cross stitching again! (Yay) it’s probably been about a year since I’ve done some solid stitching so feeling pretty smug. I took a picture to show off & realised it looks like I’ve barely done anything! 😳

What do you think I’m stitching at the moment? This is approx 5 hours in. Post in the comments what you’re guessing this is?

I can tell it’s been a while since I’ve stitched because my hands are stiff & my progress slow! (That & I already have fat preggo hands)

UPDATED: What I want to get done this weekend 💪🏻

  • Progress with my one & only active cross stitch project
  • Read more of my book (Times of Convert by Deborah Harkness) I’m currently on page 245. Ideally I want to reach pg350 by Sunday night
  • Attend afternoon tea (Saturday)
  • Attend hospital tour (Sunday)
  • Get my nails done (Sunday)
  • Reading & practice more of my hypnobirthing book
  • Unpack at least one more box (Front room or bedroom- I’m not picky!)
  • Fit some rest in there somewhere?!

That’s probably more than enough for a 2 day weekend. That & I tire so much more easily at the moment.

What do you want to achieve this weekend? Are you a stitcher, if so, what are you working on at the moment?

I hope you all have a happy & productive weekend.

Thanks for reading. Kim xx

#31 Progress?

Hey All,

I hope you are all doing well!! As I mentioned last week I was at home in Southampton last week from the Tuesday night until the Sunday. I thought I would get some more stitching done but sadly not 😦 It’s also been absolutely manic at work this week so I’ve been coming in & crashing… that & tonight I’ve got an itchy throat!! Fingers crossed I can fight off any cold/flu that going around!

Enough of my negativity & on to the Cross Stitch 🙂 I have been stitching on two projects this week. The first is the ongoing Teddy Bear Sampler I’ve been stitching since the end of September. Just search ‘WIP’ under my categories to see my older posts on this one.

As you can see I have started on the border around the bear, its all slowly taking shape. I’m fortunate enough not to be in work this weekend & although I have plans on the Friday & Saturday night my days are free for stitching!!

The second project I’ve been working on is a Christmas Card I have started for a Christmas Card exchange I am taking part in on a Cross Stitch page on Facebook- ‘Cross Stitch friends in the UK’ Click here to join this friendly cross stitch community on Facebook… I’m off to a slow start but eventually it will be a gingerbread man pattern that I have taken from the most recent Cross Stitch Crazy issue 210.

Not much to see yet. I’m sure by next week you’ll be amazed at my progress ha! As you can see I have moved back to evenweave- I just love stitching on it! It’s such a nice change from aida.

I have also joined another exchange that I need to complete by the end of December which is a Christmas decoration exchange. I haven’t picked a pattern for that one yet. Anyone got any suggestions they can share for making a Christmas decoration?

You can see the only ones I’ve made before by clicking on a previous post here. They were lovely & simple to make, but i fancy doing something a bit different this year. However, I am mindful of the sewing attached to some of the designs out there & sewing certainly isn’t my forte!

I hope you have all had a productive week 🙂 As always you are welcome to share what you are working on in the comments!

#26 Teddy bear sampler

Well it’s that time of week again where we show off what we are currently working on!

Just a quick post this week as I shared the majority of my work on Sunday. Which you can see below on post #25

My main WIP this week is the Teddy Sampler by Lesley Teare.  I do love this little cutie! I’m now all stocked up on threads again so I can continue my work. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

The picture above really shows my main progress (if any) this week on this project.

I hope you like it 🙂

This week I’m on lates which explains my limited progress. I am however off work this weekend AND I’m off most of next week so I’m hoping to get some more stitching done! I’m heading back home to Southampton next week for a friends wedding so fingers crossed its not too hectic!

As always feel free to share in the comments any links to your WIP.

Happy Wednesday 🙂

#14 WIP Wednesday *13.05.15*

Hello there everyone!

I’m aware I haven’t posted for a number of weeks- sorry for the radio silence. I’ve been on holiday & then settling back into work. I spent 2 amazing, sunny weeks in Morocco & had a fantastic time! (minus the snakes). I did however make the unfortunate mistake of not taking any cross stitch stuff away with me… So i spent 2 weeks missing my cross stitch & reading far too many books… it was lovely! 🙂

I have now been back in work for a week today & thought it was about time that I updated this wonderful blog on what I have been doing… which to be honest.. sadly isn’t that much.

I have decided that it was about time to pick up a WIP I started in January & start working on it again. It’s called ‘Tandem Wedding sampler’ & I’ve convinced myself the design is by Joan Elliott but I can’t find anywhere on the chart that tells me it’s her! Ok, I’m blind… its definitely Joan’s… I’m not surprised really as she is by far my favourite designer 🙂 so below is a picture I took on Monday afternoon, it’s mainly the groom I have been working on for the last few days. Work is busy at the moment so I’m not stitching as much as I would like… to be fair that may be an excuse… I was off all day yesterday & didn’t complete a single stitch… 😦

Tandem Wedding sampler

It says with the chart that this should take approx 40 hours to complete… it’s totally going to take me closer to 100 the rate I’m going. It’s for a friends wedding in August… so I still have time!

Have any of you completed a wedding sampler for friend of family member before? Please share your pictures or links below so I can take a look 🙂

Anyway, while I sulk & search for my stitching mojo I hope you are all having a productive week of stitching & I look forward to catching up on all the work you have been doing the last few weeks!

Happy Wednesday!!
